I published my first book in 2006. At the time, my goal was to answer the most commonly asked questions by my clients. I thought I was creating a resource so I wouldn’t have to repeat myself – and instead ended up creating a POWERFUL marketing tool for my practice. It was such a powerful marketing tool that I haven’t written a 2nd book yet.
Which is why I recommend writing a book to market your practice.
Writing a book gives you an opportunity to showcase your expertise while also giving you an excuse to go on a book promotion tour. The book promotion tour not only drives sales of your book, it also brings clients to your practice.
Writing a book is by far the BEST marketing tool you can create for your business.
When you write your book, write with the idea in mind that you’re going to :
- demonstrate your expertise
- provide plenty of case studies where you share how you’ve helped other people overcome their problems and find success.
If you don’t have at least a half a dozen tales of people whom you’ve helped – then writing the book is your excuse to radically discount or even give away your services to gather those tales.
If you need to discount or give away your services in order to write your book, it’s a good thing. Not only will you be perfecting your processes, you’ll also be gathering stories that you’ll feature in your book.
However, there’s another really good reason to include these discount clients in the process. Get their permission and the people you have helped can help promote your book when it’s published! They’ll recommend your book to their friends and family – who in turn will share your book with other friends and family. That’s how viral marketing gets started.
I’ve shared this recommendation with dozens of clients – and I am surprised by how few have actually followed through on this advice.
